Access Networks are evolving at an ever increasing pace to support new multimedia communications. Remarkable achievements have been made in transforming the core telecommunications networks into broadband networks and eventually into IP based networks. One of the long term objectives for access networks is to be able to support all types of telecommunications services; Connectionless. Connection orientated and fully interactive services.
Achieving the global information infrastructure that can deliver these services is one of the most challenging issues for future telecommunication networks. They will have to provide a common platform that uses open networking principles to offer multimedia services. One of the most crucial issues is building an access network that can migrate traditional services onto a future IP based broadband network and can extend traditional services and develop new ones. The conference will concentrate on the evolving architectures of the access network, both narrowband and broadband. The modeling of access network components to support traffic engineering, future services involving multimedia and network management. The business models will be explored in relation to cost versus revenue and the options for bringing the access network into the 21st century
